As long as their shows keep selling out...and they aren't BAD shows. Disney does not always equal bad.

The Lion King is a wonderful piece of theatre magic. Thanks to Julie Taymor. She raised the bar for all others who take on such adaptations. As long as they're staged well, why would it be sad at all?

I, for one, am looking forward to Mary Poppins. The fact that they gleamed from both the Disney movie and the original books, shows they can be flexible with the subject.

I"m really excited for the Little Mermaid, I really wanna see what they are going to do in terms of making it look as thought it's under water, and I hope Cheyenne and Celia star. Tarzan tho...I dunno...yuck is the first word that comes to mind. In general though, I think Disney shows are very well done, I loved Beauty and teh Beast and Aida; I hated the Lion King but I dunno... I guess i could understand why some people thought it was good

I really think with an improved soundtrack The Little Mermaid could be quite awesome.

I'd love to see Pocahontas done on Broadway. And I'm hoping The Little Mermaid follows through and makes it to Broadway. Those are my two favorite Disney movies.

I think they should take the Newsies to broadway... even though it would be predominately men...

Another good one would be Cry Baby but it's not disney.

Newsies would be fun. Christian Bale's singing just ruins that movie for me tho.... That would have been a ghreat show ot be in though when I was like 12 or 13...

I enjoy most Disney shows. But I am a huge Disney fan. I would very much like to see more Dsney shows on stage. I am quite excited for Tarzan, even though most are not. I woud love to see the Hunchback on stage. The only disney show I do not take to is Aida.

In addition, didn't this thread happen already? I vaguely remember discussing it heatedly somewhere else on this board. ::Shrugs:: Oh well. Let the games begin!

Disney should be severly punished for putting on shows that entertain millions ( I thought this was one of theaters functions) & keep many actors, musicians & technical people working. What may be crap to someone else may be somebody's cup of tea

Another poster mentioned that Newsies would be mostly men. The nerve of having mostly men on stage. I do not hear howls of protest when the situation is reversed.

I think it's great that Disney is successful on Broadway. Just because they are successful doesn't mean (obviously) other shows aren't good too. I, personally, would like to see Aladdin on stage. It was always my second favorite Disney after B&tB. It might be hard to do a genie though... Well, Disney magic after all.

Disney shows aren't that bad at all. They're not taking over Broadway...I mean so far out of how many shows on Broadway, there are only two Disney shows. And also plans for Tarzan and Little Mermaid. But other than that, who cares? We still have Avenue Q, Sweet Charity, Spelling Bee, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spamalot, Fiddler on the Roof, and a whole variety of shows that aren't Disney. So I wouldn't say Disney is necessarily taking over Broadway, I think people are just cringing at the idea of another Disney show on Broadway...

Two shows - with Mary Poppins expected in the next year as well (thought fortunatly, its darker edge blunts the typical Disney sugariness!)

However, if they decided to develop a Nightmare Before Christmas into a fullly fledged stage musical, I certainly won't complain...
