Jondouglas, thanks for standing up for Tom (like he needs our help). But he is a great man and has done some great work. I love the man personally, he is been a mentor to me and look forward to reading the book.

DrTheatre, you are so welcome. It ticks me off when people start bashing total strangers........knowing NOTHING about them, yet acting like they know everything, about them, ya know?

Well, a little bird (or mouse, should I say) left the book on my coffee table the other day.
To jondouglas and DrTheatre: it's such a treat! It gives a lot of meaning to the phrase "theatrical experience!"

Mine arrived today from Amazon. I haven't read it, but I have looked over a few sections. Even for someone in the know, there are things in this book that you would not necessarily know unless you worked in the business. It also has some cool features, like an actual ticket from the Lion King and a script excerpt from Tarzan. Looks like a great book!
is there any info about when and where the book signing will be?
I got mine yesterday and I LOVE THE Book. I emailed Mr. Schumacher and he told me because of the strike, that the Book Signing in SF has been postponed and I should watch out for a future date. Anyway. Love the book...it is great to have things explain in overall simple terms and since I know a lot of the stuff in the book and those he mentioned and acknowledge, it was fun to read their names...get the book it is a lot of fun!
I was able to pick up the book at The Little Mermaid, the other night, and was even able to have Tom sign it at the theatre. As a tech theatre guy, I think it's a stunning book for people to get a real glimse about what it takes to put up a show! I have a degree in tech theatre and enjoyed it, so I can whole-heartedly reccomend it to everyone.
Mine arrived today. Delightful book! And not just for kids. (Although it makes a GREAT gift for the nieces and nephews!)

What a piece of crap attempt to boost the failing Disney theatre division.

Failing? Crap attempt?
Have you read the book yet?
What? Failing? WHAT???? It's all ready on back order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble's sites. The book is absolutely beautiful. It's very, very impressive and incredibly researched.
How is Disney failing?? Think of all the actors, musicians, crew, box office staff, and others who have been employed for years and years as a result of Disney coming to Broadway . And, all the millions and millions of people, worldwide, who have gone to the theatre.
Some people just hate disney and complain about everything they do. Bobby posted a thread about it the other day complainging about the book too.
If you don't like it, dont buy it, if you dont like Disney dont go to their shows. There are plenty of people that do like them and will go to the show and buy their stuff. It's not the end of the world.
StageGuy99, I hear you loud and clear. Sure, this is a forum where you can post your thoughts and the like. Exactly...if you don't like it, then don't look at it.
But, you gotta realize that when you say something so off base and untrue, people will call you on it.

And this and this and this and that...
On that note, Starbucks is taking over, not just Broadway but all of New York City.
1. This book is indeed beautiful.
2. It is written for 13 and under. It is not HIGHLY technical, but rather speaks to kids about the basics of theatre; both on and back stage. It is written at their level, with lovely visuals. I even learned a thing or two....and I've been involved with theatre since 1970. (OK...nothing I learned was earth shattering, but full of theater lore explained) It's even sarcastic at times.
3. While I am not the biggest fan of Disney Productions, I find it hard to fault them for making family friendly theatre. (I go to lots of NON family friendly with adults) But it is lovely to have somewhere to bring my kids to instill the love of theatre within them. When you learn that theatre is magical at a young age, it will stay with you for life.

Jeremiah, thats nothing new. That's like saying Disney is taking over Disney World.

Got my book today from AMAZON. When I ordered it, it said that it was on back or and that I'd get it soon. Selling out on Amazon is a very good thing!! Wish I lived in New York or Los Angeles...the book signing/lecture would be so cool to go to.
"If the book was honest, it would tell young up-and-comers seriously interested in a career in the theater to put a bullet in their brain."
And people here have called ME bitter...

Oh, you're beyond bitter. More like diliberately mean. That's a terrible thing to say.
I didn't say it.

Sorry, my mad.....I was referring to the person who originally posted the bullet thing. I know that you weren't that person.
He's beyond bitter and clearly deranged.
