Did anyone go? Was this the same one as with Stephanie J. Block and others a few years ago? Any teases of anything new or just the golden oldies?

I had tickets and was excited to go, but unfortunately am sick so had to miss it. For me It was dull.  Intros read from prompters.  No imagination or concept into putting the evening together.  Patrick Wilson Jon Briones, and Skylar Astin were stellar.  The women didn’t fare as well. The French Cosette did not hit with me.  Evening ended by 930 ish.

I hope we get Astin back here on Broadway sooner than later. He’s got great comic timing and a terrific singing voice. Now he just needs the right vehicle to step into. Was thinking he’d be a nice addition to the Old Friends ensemble in the spring (we’ve heard little by way of that cast, save for Lea and Bernadette).

The concert at the Bowl reinforced what I have always thought:  this team wrote one great musical, Les Miz, and all their others are weak attempts to recreate that success. Even Miss Saigon has a weak score and please save us from the Pirate Queen. So this concert came to life only in the second act when they finally got to Les Miz numbers. Cast was great and it was wonderful to see Patrick Wilson and Skyler Astin on an LA stage. Audience was not that big, many empty seats. But to be fair, some were hooting and hollering for their Miss Saigon favorites. An interesting moment was when they sang snippets of songs that were replaced in some shows and finally found what the authors felt was the right song.

Who sang which songs? Mainly curious about Patrick and Skyler's performances. Some are obvious like Rachel for PQ and Jon Jon for Miss Saigon. 

Wish there was a recording, would love to hear some of this.

I also could not go because of my sickness. Wish that I have a chance to join it in the next time.

Skylar posted some clips on his Instagram. He sang Why God Why? from Miss Saigon, and A Heart Full of Love, Confrontation, and Bring Him Home from Les Miz, and Martin Guerre.
