I sucked it up and bought far side Orch Row D, but yeah this seat selection is bullsh*t. I can’t imagine what pricing for decent SMS tix will end up being. Still, I’m so thrilled with getting premium center Orch tix for Downstate for $150 that I’m a bit less unhappy overall with paying $400 for the pair.

Looks like $150 is the top price for Downstate. Got a pair in 5th row center. Fantastic deal! Now waiting for the code...

Any word yet on a performance schedule? I guess we'll find out when tix go on sale tomorrow, but I'm hoping this can fill an open Sunday night slot on 11/8 (looks like the opening is Sunday night 11/15).

More than paid for the $56 membership even without A Few Good Men and the others I intend to see.

I realize it's too soon to know anything about an extension before previews have even started, but do MTC plays usually extend? I know Bug and The Balusters did most recently, and Awake and Sing doesn't start until 12/15, so I'm hoping to be able to catch this on my NY trip that starts one day after the currently scheduled last performance (11/1).

Why wasn’t Rebecca Luker nominated for her Maria in The Sound of Music?

Jun 23, 2026 — 3:32:13 PM

Interesting to see that the previous revival included "I Have Confidence," which was added for the movie (along with "Something Good"). Was "Something Good" also in that revival? Are one or both of these songs now part of the "official" estate-approved version? And have any of the songs dropped for the movie ("An Ordinary Couple," "How Can Love Survive?," and "No Way to Stop It") also been removed from the stage version?

"La Cage" at City Center

Jun 17, 2026 — 2:55:52 PM

Kingfan011, please don't let the atrocious Pasadena Playhouse production turn you off to this beautiful show. I saw the original and the revival and loved both. At Pasadena, I left at intermission. (Though I'm happy to say Pasadena Playhouse has fully redeemed itself this year with its productions of Amadeus and Brigadoon... with Mexodus coming up next!)

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON + GIRL, INTERRUPTED - Transfer Chances

I saw Girl Interrupted last week, and I’d put its transfer chances below those of Goddess (and that hasn’t gone anywhere).

Caps in theaters

May 24, 2026 — 4:34:27 PM

A definite trend that I noticed on this theater trip is audience members not removing their baseball caps. Last night at the Hayes, I counted six people (5 men, 1 woman) in just my row and the row in front of me who kept their caps on throughout the show. It doesn’t necessarily block views (although I did ask one person at a show last week to remove theirs, since they were wearing it with the bill pointed up and it did interfere with sightlines…they looked at me like I was nuts but complied),...

KENREX - Previews & Reviews 4/26 (Lucille Lortel Theatre, Off-Broadway)

May 22, 2026 — 10:19:07 PM

Just want to take a beat to thank posters on this thread for alerting me to this show, which otherwise might have flown under my radar but turned out to be the high point of an 18-show trip. Absolutely extraordinary performance and production. (Now if only they could fix the horrific sightlines at the Lortel.)

New Billy Crystal one man show inspired by loss of his home in California wildfires to premiere at the Shubert in October

May 19, 2026 — 6:11:16 PM

I saw the last of five "readings" of this today - actually a full performance, with Billy only occasionally looking at the teleprompters on the stage. It was a thrill to see him workshop this material in such an intimate setting, including a warm Q&A afterwards. Marc Shaiman provided live keyboard accompaniment, as they're apparently testing out the music cues to use during certain scenes. The play, as previously described, is ostensibly about the loss of his Pacific Palisades home during the...

LCT's MAN OF LA MANCHA Concert

May 19, 2026 — 11:43:16 AM

I was there last night and will share my thoughts here for those who are interested. It was a concert production, with the 17-piece orchestra (under Ted Sperling's direction) at the rear of the Beaumont stage, a line of chairs on either side for the performers, and a back wall that was effectively used for projections of the prison, the inn, the courtyard, etc. There was no other set; in place of the usual drawbridge, Cervantes and Sancho made their final exits up the audience aisles. Actors ...
