Do shows attempt to open late in the Broadway season?

Quick question for those in the know.  When coming to Broadway, do shows attempt to open within a few months of the Tony Awards?

I’ve heard some say it can be tougher for a show to survive/thrive when opening in the early part of a Tony Season (although there are plenty of exceptions – including Hamilton).  Given this chatter, would any producers make a concerted effort to move their show to Broadway between February-April so it opens relatively late in the Tony Season?  Or do most shows simply come to Broadway when a theater is available and the show is ready?

Yes x 1000

You list many of the reasons: not dealing with the harsh winter with low attendance, cash in on Tony noms and hopeful wins, being fresh in the minds of the nominators.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's become increasingly common. The four best musical nominees last season all opened in April .

It follows the strategy of film- they usually release Oscar bait close to the deadline. You rarely see noms for movies that open in the first half of the year. You're forgotten by then

Best example was the original Nine. I believed it opened on the cut off date so it was really fresh in the nominators mind.

some shows do, some shows don't. there are no rules but there are trends. the cream rises to the top and nothing's gonna change that. they folks who fret about when they open are the ones selling spoilt milk.
