Honey,
I am missing a very important body part.
But thanks.
And if Marc and Scott decided to let a woman play Edna, Bette would be the only choice.
Bette Midler that is.
The Divine one could replace Divine.

That's a good idea! I just might do that.
Rent fans should write to Chris Columbus too, about the RENT movie. He said that the theme of the musical was "accepting people who are different", which it is NOT.
Anyway, great idea Corine!

jjdude2000: I searched "rent movie" on google, but I will definitely try to find an exact link for you. If I find it, I will PM it to you. I seriously think we should write to him. The theme is "no day but today".
P.S. It's playbill_signer. not to sound rude.

So you're suggesting we write him a letter to say we don't agree? Right.
That is one of the themes of RENT, and I think it's one of the more prominant RENT themes, especially with this crap administration, the times we're living in, and taking into consideration that it's not just in a theatre anymore - it will be released nation wide and seen by millions of people. I don't think he's wrong in mentioning that as a theme.

Yes, it is one theme. But in this interview he says that it is the main theme of the show... and I think a lot of fans would agree that the theme is to live for the moment.
And writing a letter was just one idea, like writing about Harvey being in the Hairspray movie. I'm not sure what we could do, but I really think that the movie should be about "no day but today".

Posted: 3/1/05 at 6:33pmI think that's the theme of Wicked. It's barely on the RENT radar. And yes, this administration sucks, but RENT was written and workshopped during Clinton.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 6:37pmTheGaIsSilent, I agree! It is the theme of Wicked. munkustrap is right that it wouldn't be bad to include the theme of acceptance in the film (this administration does suck), but the spirit of the musical is no day but today.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 6:37pmWhen Hairspray opens in London later this year, is Corine going to send messages to the producers demanding Harvey play Edna there too??

UM NO. He belongs here.
NYC needs Harvey.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 6:40pmWell, Harvey originated the role on Broadway, so it'd be cool to have him in the movie so lots of people (and even long into the future) can see him play Edna.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 7:07pmcorine how about we push for travolta to be corny collins instead?
#22re: Harvey Fans Unite! Read This!

Corny would also work. But i would love to see Bierko as Corny.
Bierko would be the perfect Corny Collins.
Travolta would be better as Wilbur or Mrs Baltimore Crabs if he feels the need to play a woman.
I CAN SEE HIM AS MRS BALTIMORE CRABS.
That would be hilarious. Actually, could John Waters play Wilbur?
He was so funny in the original film.

Well back to what people were saying about the RENT theme...
Living in the moment, loving as much as you can, etc. are obvious themes. But how can you really make a movie around the theme of "no day but today?" Jonathan Larson has already done that job, and it's in the show (maybe the movie) over and over again, repeated over and over. They'll get it.

Munk is right. One of the themes of Rent is live IN the moment, not FOR the moment.
Corine, letter writing campaigns rarely work. Even if you get each of the 43 people in the world who are upset about this casting RUMOR to write, they'll make the decision as they see fit.
It would be great if you could organize a letter writing campaign about something that could change the world. In fact, during the recent media flare-up about rapidly progressing HIV, I was very disappointed to see you, the newly-minted AIDS activist after she saw The Normal Heart, had not ONE thing to contribute. Maybe if The Normal Heart HAD moved to Broadway, you would have remembered how much the cause supposedly means to you.
