I saw a fantastic regional Miss Saigon in Chicago last year. I think the material is better in a smaller production. The bloating OBC staging takes away from the immediacy of the material.
They staged the helicopter scene with great sound engineering. . bright lights, and a rope ladder suspended from the fly space that pulled the actors stage-right. It was incredibly effective.
