La Jolla is mounting a musical adaptation of Doctor Zhivago with a score by Lucy Simon, Michael Korie and Amy Powers, libretto by Michael Weller and to be directed by Des McAnuff. I'm greatly intrigued by this. Sounds promising...

Please note that this is a "page to stage" production...albeit a workshop open to the public and not a full scale production

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

Ahhhh! Still quite interesting, though. I would love to see this move forward. Doctor Zhivago is one of my favorite stories and I'm looking forward to another big lavish dramatic musical. I loved Jane Eyre and thought it deserved a much longer run. Hopefully, The Color Purple will do well.

I absolutely loved the movie!

"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher

I heard some music from this on a radio show Lucy Simon did a few years ago and I have to say that I wasn't blown away by it. However, it was out of context and just her singing with a simple piano accompliment, so I'm sure it'll better in performance with a full orchestra.

Thank you so much for this valuable info.

Lucy Simon is one of my favorite composer and I wait her new work after the secret garden for a long time.
