Does Student Rush ever turn into Lotto?

My question mainly refers to Gypsy, but kind of applies to all shows. If a show like Gypsy has student rush, on a busier day for more in-demand tickets (especially the final performance) do they change to lotto? Or is the front row and whatever else always reserved for rush? Again, thank you.

They could change the rush all around for all performances. I don't know why they would but they could. Rent changed.

I've never heard of a rush randomly turn into a lotto one day for a certain performance. If they decide to do a lotto, it would have to be previously announced, otherwise not a lot will know about it.

Thank you so much for responding. I had known Rent did it, but since they are the ones who more or less started it, I hope that doesn't happen again. Especially with the final show (though I intend to see it at least one other time this upcoming trip) I don't mind getting there super-early as long as I get a seat. So thanks again for the helpful responses.

Rent changed it because they were getting complaints about the people who were camping out so far in advance for every single show.

Really? Huh. I had no idea. That does make sense though. The one time I tried/won lotto for Rent (about a month before it closed) there were tons of people there. I can't imagine what it would be like were it a rush.

i know for gyspy they do the front row and also the side partial views
but ive never heard of a show changing it for only a specific performance
Sometimes for last shows they will simply get rid of any rush seats available

but hairspray had lotto from the beginning (in the last row) and once that became changed to the front row they offered student rush in the mezz
but now thats gone

What's the story of RENT? Did they have (student) rush originally? When did it switch?
