This is a question I've been thinking about for quite awhile. Every time I see a show at Second Stage, I feel like all the shows reflect that space's modern feel. The designs are always sleek and have more of a modern edge. While shows at RattleStick tend to be more messy and the sets more detailed. Same with Playwrights: It has a very sleek, modern design. Everything I've seen there has been of a modern design. Would something like Chekov work well in a space like Playwrights or Second Stage? Or would it be more suited for a traditional Broadway house?

In the case of for-profit Broadway shows, it's the reverse. The style of shopw can affect the producer's choice of venue. RENT and URINETOWN both played in run-down, almost decrepit theatres. Neither show would have looked right at The Palace.
