Nobody ever mentions Spelling Bee anymore.Has anyone seen it recently, is it still holding up?

I have seen some spelling bee posts around here, especially the one about the girl who spelled cow incorrectly. I haven't seen it recently, but I have a friend who was just at Spelling Bee the other day and she was loving it.

I saw it at the beginning of October. It was really good, but not great. The only great part were the definitions and sentences. Everything else was just mediocre. I also didn't think the score was anything special. All in all, i really good show, but it never hit greatness.
P.S. I had an understudy for the erection kid and the magic foot one. That might of been the reason it wasn't great.

Spelling Bee is a great show, but not the type that inspires the fanatical loyalty of young theatergoers (who make up a very good percentage of frequent posters to this board) the way shows like Wicked do. It's not that the show is in any trouble, just that our particular posters are less obsessed with it than others.

Actually, I'm a kid (15 years old) and I didn't really like Wicked. It was good, but far from being great. Spelling Bee was much better in my opinion.

Qman, did you know the score going in, or was it the first time you heard it? just asking becuase I learned the score before going in, fell in love with it, and it enhanced my viewing of it becuase I was already familiarized with Finn's score, and William Finn always takes about two or three listens for me to truly love the music because it is so complex and intricate.

I am actually going to see it on Nov. 20th and I can't even wait any longer because it looks SO funny and I am a HUGE Finn fan. Does anybody know if Fogler is going to be back because I heard he has been out for a couple of weeks and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to see him?

I don't think he'll be back that soon, unfortunatly. he was wonderful. However, I know his understudy, and he is a great guy who will wonderful in his place.

Pippin, I did not know the music going in. But for me to call a score great, now this is just an opinion, I have to walk out of the theatre looking back and thinking of all the great songs. Like they all have to be flowing through my head. In Spelling Bee, this did not happen.

I love Spelling Bee and go see it at least once every couple of weeks. The cast is wonderful, it's a fun show- it always makes me laugh. The songs have grown on me, and I love seeing the audience members on stage and changes that happen every night.

Safety in falsehood--I just think your screen name is interesting in terms of your post. I am sure you didn't mean to offend anyone but I would just be a bit more careful about making sweeping statments without have real corroboration.
What was mentioned here was that Dan was out for one performance because he hurt his non spelling foot which had been the only time he had ever missed a performance.
This absence is not related to that temporary injury. Let us hope Dan is well and will be back at scheduled time upon completion of this film.

Yes, I hope that Dan is well when he returns, but my screen name has nothing to do with anything. I don't take joy in falsehoods. I had heard on this site from someone who I thought to be reliable, what I has put in my post, found out it was wrong and took it down.

I saw it for the 3rd time on Sunday and enjoyed it more than either of the previous times. The first time was before the Cast Recording came out so I didn't know the songs and I occasionally had trouble making out the words, both spoken and sung. The second time I was in the lottery seats and could hear better, but knew the jokes, so it wasn't as funny. This time it had be quite a while since I'd last seen it so I'd forgotten some things and they've incorporated some new words. I also enjoyed the fact that they're now personalizing the "facts" about the audience spellers instead of using the same things for each show.

I loved every moment of the show and look forward to seeing it again in March when it opens in Chicago. If there was a Tony for Best Song, it should have gone to The I Love You Song. I get chills every time I hear it. Spelling Bee, like Forever Plaid, is one of those shows that I doubt I will ever tire of seeing.

Shouldn't we maybe be glad that there aren't a million and one posts/threads about the show? lol i mean, with how annoyed some people get with all the new threads about wicked stuff, shouldn't we be relieved that everyone's not asking about what kind of shampoo Dan uses or what time of day Jesse goes to the gym?
