I mean honestly. I think the worst thing about this show is the music.
I can't see people leaving that theater thinking, "sweet mother I have to get this CD"
Rock of Ages on the other hand I can see people rushing to buy the cd. (but again I am biased because I think rock of Ages is the sleeper hit of the season. I don't think its high art but I think its going to make a ton of money)

p.s sorry, I just saw that there is a massive thread about the OBCR below. my bad.

I can't wait.

"I think the worst thing about this show is the music. "

Exactly YOU think, it isn't fact so don't act like it is.

I think the score is deceptively better than it sounds in the theatre and will amke a great CD.

I liked Shrek's score a LOT better than Billy Elliot's (which is the only other new musical I've seen this season so far), I feel like it knew exactly what it was trying to be, and chose great moments to transcend the story with beautiful moments.

Especially Who I'd Be, which I think is one of my favorite songs from the last few years to come out of Broadway, and provided my favorite moment in the theatre so far this season (that pause after Shrek "removes his helmet." He could see all that was possible, and all that his life could be in just that one moment, a piece of true beauty).

Anyway, that's my two cents. I'll certainly buy the album the day it goes on sale.

Ok massofmen...I'd rather actually see SHREK than ROA...at least it has a plotline!

I'm sorry, but pushing ROA fans' buttons is so much fun!

A) The "Charleston" is your name? and you have been on this board since December? I didn't attack you personally why are you attacking me personally? I said I didn't like the music of a show and you are commenting on my personal emotional state. why?

B) CsOnbroadway: You have been here since October right? And you think you are pushing my buttons because you think Shrek has more of a Plotline than ROA? huh. Actually ROA and Shrek both have major plot lines and a few sublplots. Just because a show uses 80's music doesn't mean it doesn't have a plot. :) That's called assuming.

c) Timessq3: of course its my opinion. Nothing is fact when it comes to art. Why are you making the most obvious statement i think I have ever seen on this board? I know it's what I think, that's why I said it.

When you both have been on here as long as I have (almost 5 yrs) then maybe you can call me a shill for a show. But since you haven't, you have no idea which shows I have praised in the past and demonstrated against. Look up my messages if you are going to make an assumation about me. I guess you both are shill's for shrek then huh.

Just because I think a show will succeed commercially doesn't mean I like the show now does it. See you are assuming something about me now aren't you. And you know what happens when you assume kids.

I would rather get replied to from Wannabeafoster, or Curtainpuldowner, or someone else who has been on this board longer than 2 trimesters.

Wow, massofmen, are you seriously judging by how long someone's been on here. Let's put things into perspective.

TheCharleston: Broadway Legend
CSonBroadway: Broadway Star

messoflife: Leading Actor

So: Who's been contributing countless times on here, and who just logged back onto their account from 5 years ago. Hmm, let's see...

edit: And I for one cannot wait for the recording. Looking forward to it much more that the mess called Rock of Ages.

"He found something that he wanted, had always wanted and always would want— not to be admired, as he had feared; not to be loved, as he had made himself believe; but to be necessary to people, to be indispensable." -F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise

actually wicked_beast if you would do your homework before making an assumption you would then see that I post about once a week. so your inane and unfounded assumption of me "logging on" after 4 yrs is again, unfounded. Just because I don't post doesn't mean I don't read..right? again, just some basic logic.

People, do some research before you make blanket claims.

and did you really call me Messoflife? Are you really making a personal insult against me? come on. that's just sad. And if you are, thats the best you could do?
Just because I don't post 80 times a week doesn't mean I am not informed. It just means I have a life outside of a message board. Just because someone post more in 4 months than someone has in 5 yrs doesn't mean they know more now does it? That's called logic.

And my post about being on here a long time was so that they two neophytes can understand that before you make a discernment against them, at least look back and see what they have liked and disliked over the past 5 years. A shill is someone who JOINS the board specifically to boost their shows popularity./ Which doesn't make much sense because the people on this chatroom or any chatroom are not going to keep a show alive or kill it.

and why is rock of ages a mess? (I love when people can't put their personal feelings aside and just make rash statements concerning a piece of art because it makes them mad.) Do you think the production is a mess? Which doesn't correlate with a cast recording? Do you think the music is a mess? Although Don't stop believing is the number one downloaded song on Itunes. So what would you say is "a mess' I am very interested to hear your insightful opinion on what "mess" means. Maybe a "mess" is a 26 million dollar dreamworks musical that can barely make operating costs each week and is trying deperately to stay alive to the tony awards but will ultimately close by labor day.

So again..what does "mess" mean to you Wickedbeast?

To me, the Shek music seems like the kind of music that isn't really catchy at first, but grows on you with repeat listens. That's why I want to get the CR.

it's nice when people can just comment on the OP's statement rather than making it a personal affair. thank you yankeefan and schmeg.
I just don't think the tunes are catchy enough to have people leaving the theater, after they paid 80/tix to then spend another 20 on an unforgettable score.
Just my 2 cents.
