How pointless. No one will match what might be Pacino's best performance, and no one will be able to recreate those fantastic scenes he had with Durning.

Strange, strange, strange... sorry to be blunt, but i think it's incredibly mean-spirited and entirely unnecessary and i think you're making it about you (which is something you've always been very good at) while actually what i'm trying to explain to you is that

I, too, find it pointless. The movie is up there with ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE GODFATHER as one of the most perfect films ever made. Why pay Broadway prices?

I think that Hamilton's popularity is because of its brilliance of course but also because it's original and unique. Hearing that this production it coming to Broadway makes me long for the time that every play and musical was original and exciting. The theater has become an assembly line of sequels, just like the movies. Sad...

The only review of a show that matters is your own.

there was never such a time. That's rose colored nostalgia run amok.

that's not to say that I don't wish there were more original ideas being unveiled, or that i don't wish there were fewer producers whose principal interest was in the exploitation of their film properties, but let's try to keep the nostalgia in check a bit, shall we?

No. And you've all hit on the reasons why. Biggest for me - take the time and talent and come up with something original. But, second reason - it is already a perfect movie. Not that a perfect movie can't attempt a life on stage (thinking Amelie). But...no.

As Hogan points out, many shows throughout the years, quality aside, have been based on something or other. Sometimes the inspiration is just a spark, sometimes it's a full adaptation. For example... I doubt that's the era mc1227 was longing for, but much of Shakespeare and virtually all of the Greeks is "unoriginal." And of course Show Boat wasn't original at all.

What we should be longing for is stuff that brings something original and exciting to the material, without regard to whether the source material is original to the stage or not. I see no reason to expect anything less from Guirgis-he is not in the business of giving us crap.

I think it could be an interesting, tight little play. With Stephen Guirgis aboard, I'm hopeful.

One thing I'm happy about is that they've been adapting to plays and not musicals.
