I went to see good ole' Dolly last night. She shouted out to the creative crew of 9 to 5 (Joe Mantello and others) and sang "Backwoods Barbie" from the show. I am pretty pumped for this show. My to loves, Dolly and musicals will finally come together.
That sounds pretty cool. And you got to hear a song from the show. That's even better! How was the song?
Its great. It is on her new album Backwoods Barbie. You can download it on iTunes.
I saw Dolly on Biography not long ago and not only did she say she's working on bringing 9 to 5 to Broadway but she's working on bringing a semiautobiographical musical to Broadway as well. I think I'm looking forward to seeing that than 9 to 5. From what I saw on Biography she's had a very interesting life.
Also, in the special she said that she wrote 9 to 5 on her fingernails while filming the movie. She has those long, acrylic names that click when rubbed together. That's how she got the opening to the song. Now that's musical talent! lol

I still say her best role is Miss Mona...even if she was miscast.
What a terrific concert. I can't believe that she's 62 and her voice is still as strong as ever. Really a classy evening.
I'm curious to see if the entirety of 9 to 5 has Dolly's country feel. That'll definitely be interesting, as "Backwoods Barbie" in particular really depends on that unique brand of Parton charm.
Apparently, if I remember correctly from the video of Dolly and the stars of 9 to 5, the songs sung by the character Dolly played in the film, Doralee Rhodes, will have a country sound to them, but the rest of the score will not.
Dolly hits the UK soon - cant wait!
