I hope you get your chance soon, Dollypop. That is absolutely insane. However, those names. Man, and I thought the names in the 70's were bad. What are the parents thinking these days? LOL!! What are the parents names? Are they as "different"???

Apparently a lot of us have a story about funky names....Dolly, when I was reading those names you referenced earlier, (Shaquanna, Tameeka, Onteequa, etc...), I instantly flashed back to a deposition I took years ago. I was asking a woman how many children she had, and their names, and every one of them had one of "those" names. But the best part was, when I asked her to spell one of them....she couldn't!

I think every teacher has a story about a girl in their class named "Female", only it's pronounced "Fe-mah-lee". The mothers see the word "female" on the baby's wristband and think the nurses have already named the kid, so the keep the name.

BillyLawlor, you attend a school in Brooklyn. Don't you have similar names among the students in your classes? One name I forgot: David M. Polite (actually, he was polite!)

I was told once, years ago, by a co-worker, that he knew someone who named their daughter a name that was pronounced Shethaid, but it was spelled, SH*Thead.
Then there was the girl I worked with who couldn't avoid her last name: Jenny Crapo

I was thinking of something I read in an old, old Ann Landers column and thought I'd pass on as a chuckle.
A family had a God-awful last name--let's say "SH*Thead" as I can't remember the real name. Anyway, they had a little girl who was teased about it at school.
To comfort the little girl the Mother told her that she was lucky that she was a girl because someday, when she grew up and married, she would be able to change her last name.
Well time passed. The little girl grew up and fell in love--with a guy who had a worse last name than she had!
Just goes to prove,"A rose by any other name, would smell as sweet!"

It must be more difficult to adjust to summer temperatures ( coming from cold weather) than having summer weather all year round

DollyPop- I had a Shaquana, Yahsef, Quameek, Tyriee and a Nikisha. So, yes, I do have similar names. Next year, however, I'll be going to school in Manhattan, where the students are more diverse. My brother attends school in Manhattan, and he has an Ocean, and a Tower.

I just had another student transfer into one of my summer school classes (we're passed the mid-term point and they're still admitting students!). His name is "Universal Walker". Why does he make me think of the Little Old Ladies in THE PRODUCERS?

I perform magic shows at birthday parties, etc.....I've come across a birthday girl named "Nosmoking" (pronounced "nahzmahking"). I found that odd. Probably saw a sign in the hospital or something. I've also had twins (boy and girl) named named Patrick and Patricia. Not odd names, but still interesting.

Years ago when I 1st started nursing The TV series The Young & the Restless had a character played by David Hasselhoff cld "Snapper" ( a knick name in the show) and this couple named their kid after the character. If he had become the ring master in the circus i guess he would have been The young whipper Snapper" ( I amuse easily lol)

The 'no smoking' thing seems to be lore in the teaching profession- I don't know one teacher who hasn't spoken of either one student with the name, or twins-one called nosmo, and one called king.

Isaac Asimov created a character in the 40's named Susan Calvin. This character was supposed to have been born in 1999 and by the point of time in the stories, she was a middle-aged robotics expert. Sure enough, an Asimov fan actually married a man whose last name was Calvin and when her child was born (a girl) in 1999, she name her "Susan!" Having read the stories, I hardly think it was a compliment to the poor girl!
As an odd side note, there's a really bad Andy Kaufman/Bernadette Peters movie called "Heartbeeps." Two junkyard technicians named Susan and Calvin show up near the end.
