I enjoy reading the book (which doesn't have Grizabella) more than the show.

there are a few "Eliot-isms" that date cats. most notably the lyric "She haunted many a low resort, near the grimy road of Tottenham Court." by the time the show opened in 1981 Tottenham Court Road had been cleaned up, but for Eliot when it was written Tottenham Court Road was still a hooker's district. so Eliot was suggesting that Grizabella was, in fact, a hooker or at the very least associated herself with that lifestyle...
