Maybe he'll make a return to "Hairspray" now ... even if only for a short time. He's a fantastic Seaweed!

IT'S not about money, getting jobs work or whatever... He didn't get any respect and they just threw him out like it was nothing...it wasn't right is all i am saying....
Unless you know him personally I don't see how you could know if he didn't have any respect and they just kicked him to curb. It's a sucky thing that happens but it happens all the time for various reasons to poor reviews, new direction of material, etc., heck I know someone who was let go after a tryout simply because they were considered too short!
The point is it happens and I am sure that they knew from their contracts that there may have been a possibility of them being replaced; its the nature of tryouts and some times the changes work for the best.
And I'll bet that once the disappointment in not going to Broadway wears off, all he'll be worried and upset about is where his next paycheck is coming from. Because as much as its about the love of performing, its still a JOB and they got bills to pay. I'm sure he'll find something soon as will Kecia.

you guys are going to see it how you want to see it. But judging by how they played Chester they had been planning this for awhile. Donkey was a big role in the movie and they didn't play Donkey that big in the play with publicity or anything, not even a costume (which i am dying to see what exactly he was wearing...) but he is no longer in the play and from what i have seen he is upset about it and just know it isn't always about the money...

well, when you have about 20 million dollars on the line, and you see something that you don't think is working, you can change whatever you want. In that sense, it is about money, and it's totally their right. They're developing a show.
It's sort of ridiculous that you're making all these claims about how Gregory was disrespected by the producers when you haven't even seen his COSTUME, much less the show - from what I've gleaned from your comments, you're judging this based on the movie, the publicity, and what you've supposedly heard. The most talented of actors get let go after out-of-town tryouts simply because they don't gel with the part or the production. It happens, please get over it. As many have said previous, they've invested a lot of money into the show and it's a business move.
nyc_chick02, As it has been said before on here. Unless you actually know Gregory personally then you really have no idea wh it is your talking about. Yes, a lot of actors get replaced in out of town try outs. Even ones who are very very good. It is a business first and foremost. And, if you think that it is direction and nothing to do with the actor himself then the producers will see the same mistakes with the new actor playing Donkey.
But, your over dramatizing what goes on with actors in an out of try out and making them seem like they are the end of the world. But, in reality every actor is aware of all the bad things that could potentially happen when they sign that contract. Yet, they still sign it anyways.
As for the costume, they didn't release a picture of it because it was ever changing. There could be many reasons why they didn't have a PR shot of it. For all we know they knew that the one that was ready by the time of the photos being taken was not going to be the same one that was on Broadway so they didn't take a picture of them yet. Whereas with the Shrek costume they knew that the way Brian was wearing was going to be the one that was going to be used on Broadway. Your starting to come off worse then musicaltheatrefan3
