Donmar’s Henry V

Pretty strong, positive reviews for this production, especially Kit Harrington. Sounds like some interesting interpretive choices have been made. Would be happy to see this transfer (maybe St. Ann’s?).

One of my all time favorite theatre going experiences was seeing Kevin Kline take on the title role - at the Delacourte if aim not mistaken.

It's interesting, I know a lot of people whose taste and opinion I highly regard that saw it during previews and didn't think much of it. Opening night was just after the Ukrainian situation started and a lot of reviewers suddenly found it very relevant and made interesting parallels to Zelensky and the Russian invasion.

I think it's interesting that depending on which review you read, Harington's Henry is either seen as an authoritarian figure or a figure standing against authoritarian figure a la Zelensky.

As far as a transfer goes, the reviews I've read describe the show has having a LOT of very British iconography in its production - incorporation of St. George's Cross into the set, etc.... I'm not sure if that would play the same in the States.

For those interested, this is being captured by National Theater Live and will be broadcast to theaters (at least in the Boston area) in June.
