i'm sure in addition to ease of twirling its a safety issue, if say glind accidentally clocked elphaba with the fiber optic-y one it would do far less damage than the heavy staff

Looks like they rushed through the headshots. Most of them look like they were resized very hastily.

The Glinda wand is....short. And it looks like there was this silver ball on top and it exploded or something. I don't see anything wrong with Kate though. I think she looks quite okay.

Ana looks FABULOUS in green. No doubt about it.

Yah, I think of all the Elphaba's out there, Idina and Ana look the best.

Edit: Just checked out the headshots. I agree, they look WAY rushed and all pixy and narsty. Do they take a fresh set just for Wicked? Or are those their professional shots they just post? 'Cause they look incredibly similar in style to be just individual headshots.

I must intrude that Ana looks way better in these pics than she does in person...seen her twice now.

Please don't hate me, but it's true. Steph and Jenna are the prettiest in green. Jenna first. She was breathtaking. I couldn't believe anyone would not like her seeing as she was the prettiest person on stage, green or not.

and as far as the wand goes, I think she uses that one the entire second act, no? I just saw it Wednesday and from my memory that was the one for Act 2. Since Act 2 is a few years later I thought it was like, her "encouragerizing" Glinda wand.
and they have that one in the tour too, don't they?

I don't know though :)

Is it just me or are all the Glindas starting to look more and more alike- Megan, Kendra and Kate all look so much alike. Im getting confused.

Ana looks good as Elphaba. The girl playing Nessa looks scary. The guy playing Fiyero looks good. The Wizard looks like Wayne Newton.

Heidi is a very great Nessa---super scary in act 2!

Kris is the best Fiyero in my opinion (never saw Norbert, but he's probably second to him :))

Gene is a fantastic Wizard! the best I've seen, though I really like the tour's wizard (David? is that his name?)

Well, yeah I know that..then why are we talking about who the prettiest Elphaba is?

I was saying Jenna is the prettiest, and forgot to add, that was my only complain to her as Elphaba :)

However, I think it makes more sense for Elphaba to be this gorgeous girl, and her only flaw is her skin color. It makes a better statement. She isn't ugly and green, she's just green. That's the only reason why people aren't accepting of her.

Nah, I think if you go back to the original book, WICKED, it's pretty clear Elphaba isn't attractive. Certainly not just a pretty girl with green skin. That's kind of sugar coating the story a bit, don't you think?

Now, I will go out on a limb and say that I bet one of the reasons so many pretty women have played Elphaba in the musical is that, in a very shrewd observation, the creative team realizes that most of the young girls who see the show are going to identify with Elphaba. And most would like to think of themselves as misunderstood and unaccepted -- but still pretty.

That's a way of looking at it. And it is true, it gives a small sense of nobility to say that even though you are misunderstood, since you're still attractive, it all evens out.

Also, on a more superficial note, Elphaba IS the lead in a theatrical hit. They're not going to want someone BEAUTIFUL, but someone who is attractive in some sense. It's hard, however, because she goes from this misunderstood gawky schoolgirl to this misunderstood road-rage witch. So mpheh. The casting directors have done a pretty good job so far. I'm not complaining.

I understand that Elphaba is never meant to be beautiful. But I was saying that I like to think that Elphaba WOULD be a beautiful girl, only that she is discriminated against because she is green. It strengthens the point (in my eyes) how dumb her being an outcast is. She's not ugly, or mean, or crippled (like Nessa, who in the book doesn't have arms!) she's just green and for that reason ONLY people don't like her. It, to me, shows how ignorant peopple can be.
