Dorothy Collins was in BALLROOM?...her singing "50 Percent" from BALLROOM

I had no idea Dorothy Collins had Dorothy Loudons role on the BALLROOM tour! But I was on the website her daughters put together (rememberingdorothycollins.com) and then read that she had starred on the tour....another one of those shows that has such a fantasic score but such a short run, its barely known of.

Go down the page to the heading ""Fifty Percent"- Dorothy on tour in Ballroom with the Broadway cast 1979" and listen, I prefer Loudons emotionally gut-wrentching rendition, but none the less this is fantastic to hear.

Do any recordings exist of this tour???

Oh thank you, aliceripleystheshiz, for posting this! I love the song/show and Dorothy C, so it's great to know this exists. And, yes, I'm curious to know if any other recordings exist. Thanks again for having such great taste! :)

First of all, she sounds A-MAZING. However, it says it's a tour but she's singing only with a piano it sounds like. Are we sure this was on a tour???

It was, to what I've unearthed, a tent tour. Similar to the Kenley circuit (although he had Mrs. Roper, Audra Lindley), however I've never found which one.

I'd hazard it was either the Music Fair Tent Circuit, or one that Ruta Lee calls the Eastern Silo circuit (which I have never heard of).

The recording of her is quite good, although I like Loudon better.

Although I'm not 100% certain I want to say that the first (and only) official full-fledged tour of BALLROOM starred Janis Paige.

Janis Paige did do it at the Muny, and they, once upon a time, did house tours...so it's entirely possible.

Special thanks to me for that audio, although I think that's going too far. Hundreds of others have had it before me. I just gave my copy to Dorothy's daughter to use on the site.
Anyway, she sounds glorious. Truly a one of a kind performer.

It's funny you say that, because I once commented to a friend that this clip was sort of like getting to see Dorothy as Young Sally pining for Ben.
