I Loved her.
She was simply sublime in Annie and her Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney was astonishing.
I recall that it was Dorothy Loudon who I first saw perform "Broadway Baby" from Follies as a novelty song, shortly after Follies closed on Broadway. Her rendition was spectacular. I recall her saying "I bet you didn't know what you had with this one Steve," to Sondheim who was in the audience.
I remember her on the Tony awards, being sung to with the title tune from MAME (by Robert Preston, among others)while standing atop a moving car that went across stage-- she was a trip.
I am very sad she died so relatively young.

Very talented. I recently saw a recording of her performing 50 Percent from Ballroom on the '79 Tony Awards. She was terrific. Did anyone here see her in Sweeney Todd or Annie?
robin, i saw her in both:)))))) i can tell you specifics of she and angela in sweeney, i saw them both twice and i saw her in annie twice too:)
I saw her in Annie, and enjoyed her performance very much. What sad news.
I was fortunate to see her several times on stage: in Annie, Ballroom, Noises Off, and Sweeney Todd. What a shame that two of her best performances (Annie and Noises Off) were both taken in the movies by Carol Burnette, she should have been given a chance to recreate her roles on film.
I thought she was an amazing actress, despite my adoration of Angela Lansbury, her Mrs. Lovett is still by far my favorite interpretation I've seen, and I've seen more than 10 actresses do the role. She was very funny in the comedy parts but you always saw a woman so in love with a man, she would do anything for him. It was that hint of vulnerability that made all the parts she played incredible.
Thank You Ms. Loudon for giving me nights in the theatre I will always cherish. Rest In Peace.
