Thoughts of Jennifer Hudson as the Adrianne Lenox character in the movie Doubt? Not sure how big the part will be in the movie, Angela Bassett might be a sweet choice too. Never saw Doubt, so I'm not sure if Jennifer would be a good choice or not, thoughts?
no no and no. i can't see that. adrianne lennox should stick it. she was wonderful, the part was so tiny and yet she made it memorable. she could do so much with it onscreen if it were larger, and even if it wasn't.. i still vote her.
Jen is 25.
Bassett would be a great choice i think
Jennifer isn't old enough for that role...I would bet on an Angela Bassett, Lynn Whitfield, Alfre type.
While I don't agree with Hudson as the mom in Doubt, I also don't see what the fuss about Ms. Lennox was. I saw Doubt several weeks after she won her TONY, and I thought the other three actors were really into their characters. They really breathed life into them and Cherry Jones was even sick. Ms. Lennox was flat. Very flat. Monotonous and boring in comparison. One wondered if she was even really at the theatre at all, let alone in the same show. Perhaps I caught her on an off night.
I love Angela Bassett, but if Hudson is too young, Bassett is pretty close to being too old. What about Chandra Wilson (from Grey's Anatomy)?
I mentioned this in the other DOUBT movie thread, but I'd love to see Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Mrs. Muller.

ba dum csh.
I doubt Lennox will recreate her role in the film, but to whomever said that Lennox was not great, I really question you. I thought she was drop dead brilliant.
I think Angela Bassett is just about perfect for the role and hope to see her take it on for the film version.

You know, munk, it's not that hard to scroll up and down -- or even read, for that matter.

Chandra Wilson! Totally. It's just the right size and texture for her. She'd bring so much. I adore her.
Then again, I adore most of the Grey's cast.

She's supposed to be the age that would have a son who's an altar boy.
Chandra Wilson is an inspired idea. I really like the Angela Bassett idea, but Chandra could really delve into this role. She'd be great.
My fear is that we are going to discover that J Hud is a one trick wonder, able to be coaxed through her performance in Dreamgirls, but when put into a situation with a less patient and expressive director, is going to implode.
I think Jennifer Hudson's real future is in the music business, not the film business. Her Dreamgirls performance would have been much less satisfying if she wasn't singing so well.
I disagree, zoran. I saw alot of acting ability in Hudson, and while her "showiest" moments were when she was singing, I think she could turn out to be on hell of an actress. She seems to be smart about her film future and with her looking at projects like Robert Redford's Jackie Robinson movie, she looks to be headed in a promising direction.
