Oh, and I found it amusing that the host called Michael Riedel a critic.
If not for him , the georgeous Oriental Theater in Chicago would no longer be there. Along with the Chicago, those are the only 2 theaters still left in the Loop. The rest are all gone including the gem known as the United Artists.
Huh? The theatres literally in the Loop consist of:
Oriental (aka Ford Center)
Palace (aka Cadillac)
Schubert (aka Bank of America)
Chicago
Goodman
Loop-adjacent (but still considered "Loop"):
Auditorium
Lyric Opera
Symphony Center
Merle Reskin
Harris
Pritzker
There has never been anything "creative" about Drabinsky, except the lies he told.
The man raised funds for some shows (and then misappropriated them). That's not creative. And it helps give the arts a bad name.
If you want to laud creativity, praise the writers, directors, designers, and performers of the shows you attribute to Drabinsky's creativity. They're the creative ones.
Matt, I noticed that too, though not with such detail. He saw Chicago as an already hugely successful market--and I think that's one of (a myriad) places he oversold himself.
Newintown I agree--to an extent. I think he did recognize what was good, or had potential. He didn't place his cards on hopeless chances.
