What do you guys think that the reviews for this show will be like? Mixed? Negative? Positive?

I think there will be a lot of mixed reviews. Some critics will like it, some will hate it...everyone's got different tastes.

My question is.... What will Ben think?

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

I was wondering the same thing. With the previews starting so late, does anyone know exactly when the press goes in?

i think that all of the reviews that have been posted on this very board should give you a clear indication as to where the critics are leaning. if you didn't know it, most of the major papers' reviewers post rough drafts of their critiques here to see how they play before publishing them. you just have to look carefully and read between the lines to find out who's who. once you figure it out, it's very easy to predict.

Namo's review on the off-topic board really breaks it down. Check it out...

I know! They gave THE CIVIL WAR poor reviews! How could anyone in their right mind do that!

"They gave THE CIVIL WAR poor reviews! How could anyone in their right mind do that!"

Just half a mind would do that. All they had to do was open their eyes. Civil was had good music, but was an AWFUL production.

No doubt Dracula will be in constant fluctuation during the run of previews, so it's really anyone's guess how it will turn out by opening night.

No, the music in CIVIL WAR was outstanding and the production was good.

But not everyone may feel the same way about a show.

there are bound to be a few good reviews but high school papers have a very limited circulation so we may not see too many of them. i doubt too many of the major critics will praise much beyond the design and actors. and the fact that critics hated Civil War is evidence that many of them know exactly what they're doing and what makes a good musical. I saw the OBC and honestly would have had a better time listening to the very good Civil War CD while watching C-SPAN on mute.

Well, if they resort to a nude scene you know they are in trouble... rummor is they added that. Guess thats good for a few tourist tickets. In La Jolla the actors got great reviews as did the special effects but they said the actors could not overcome the poor script and less than memorable music. There were wonderful voices and talent and one good song. Reviewers blasted everything else....including the music, the book, and I think the direction....... so what did they do..they recast most of the show and that was one of the the things working for them,
that may not be a good thing.....did they fix the music, the book and the direction? Think they will throw money at it and it will be a show of outstanding special effects and that will be the only memorable thing about it. At Preview they should read the reviews and fix what was broken (script and music) even if it requires new creative talent..I doubt new actors will fix the problems. But I could be wrong, hope I am.

Do we really need another Dracula or Vampire Play. Seems there is a Dracula play or movie every six months.

the critics will hate it -- I personally can't wait to read John SImon's review -- he was vicious (and correct) in hi review of Cival War..but there will be an audience for it -- everyone knows the story and tourist both domestic and foreign will see it...
