After many years of petitioning for a remake by screenwriter Patrick Read Johnson, his original vision is restored for the stage correcting mistakes done by producer Raffaella De Laurentiis and director Rob Cohen. The musical drama will follow Johnson and Charles Edward Pogue's story treatment that was novelized as the tie-in to the original movie and will feature original themes by Randy Edelman and new songs written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. So far, the leading cast is headlined by "Les Miserables" and " Phantom of the Opera" star Ramin Karimloo as the disillusioned knight turned dragonslayer Sir Bowen. Clare Foster from "Galavant" will play the rebellious red head Kara, Christian Borle(Spamalot, Legally Blonde, Peter and the Starcatcher) will play the comical Brother Gilbert. Ben Platt is rumored for the villain role and veteran Carolee Carmello(Finding Neverland) will portray the tragic Celtic Queen Aislinn. Further voice casting is yet to be announced but it is rumored that Colm Wilkinson has been attached for the starring voice role. The production will have the original puppet design from Jim Henson Workshop and Gary Pollard.
