How doe the nominations work? Do they pick a winner, or is being nominated like winning? And, do they have a cut off of the number of people that can be nominated or do they just pick as many people as they want. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Hugh Jackman won the Distinguished Performance award last year, but Jones won it in a previous year. Not that it matters too much. :)
And a nomination isn't a win- it's like other awards in that they make one selection in each category. The Distinguished Performance award a bit unusual because combines males and females performing in plays and musicals and picks just one each year.

I havent seen the 800 people on their Distinguished Performer list, but my guess is that it will go to Norbert Leo Butz, Natasha Richardson, Victoria Clark, or maybe even Billy Crystal.

Wow they are really overdue for a female win. Maybe Kathleen Turner will get it. She'd be a great choice.

What kind of cachet does this award have within the theatre community?

So they just pick as many people/shows as they want? Wow, only one person out of all those people...I'm gonna go with Norbert.

Wait, didn't Sutton win this for Millie? Or was that something else? Are Drama League and Drama Desk two different things?
Broadway Legend Joined: 3/4/04
Yes, they're 2 different things.
what a great week for Billy Porter! and well-deserved too.
