Fantod, The Two Character Play was produced Off-Broadway two years ago, in a production starring Amanda Plummer and Brad Dourif. Despite a rave review from Ben Brantley, the production wasn't a success and I doubt we'll see another revival any time soon. The play is a tough sell in and of itself.

Likewise, I doubt we will see another revival of Our Town so soon after David Cromer's long-running Off-Broadway revival.

Sweet Bird of Youth was in London a couple of years ago with Kim Cattrall. Thought it pretty average really.

"Six Degrees of Separation" gets my vote.

(That spectacular, and very long-running, off-Broadway "Our Town" seems likely to keep that show away from Broadway for at least a few years. Who would want to compete with that recent memory?)

(And it does seem odd that "The Mousetrap" has never been done on Broadway. Something to do with the Christie estate?)

A friend of ours saw Mousetrap in London and said it was ok but nothing spectacular. He has no clue re it's longevity.

The Mousetrap has been running in London for, I think, 60 years. The British love their murder mysteries. The only reason I can't see it playing Broadway is because every community theater, high school, college, church and senior citizen's club does it. But it only has eight characters and one set, so it seems like it could be produced fairly cheaply.

I didn't like that last revival of Our Town. Jane Curtin, in an attempt to play hardy New Englander, came across as mean and spiteful. And I never really felt that Ben Fox made the transition from awkward teen into grown man.

But like Gypsy, Our Town is part of the American canon and should be produced professionally at least once every decade.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I've performed it. I hated it. I truly hope to never face it again.

I'd love to see a return of An Inspector Calls, but I can't imagine it ever being better staged than the 90s revival. Just bring that back intact as they did in the West End.

Someone mentioned Torch Song Trilogy. I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but when Sean Hayes was doing Promises a few seasons back, I remember telling a friend that I'd be intrigued to see him as Arnold. Linda Lavin or Judith Light would be great as the mother. It's a tough sell of a play -- it's loooooong, and feels especially so if it's not performed well -- but can be very rewarding.

I agree with that. It's so hard when you see a perfect production. That's why I didn't see the most recent revival of "The Heiress." The Cherry Jones production was so well done that I'd be afraid to ruin my memories of it.
