I need to see her in something else because I was not moved by her performance in Into the Woods at all, but everyone on this board just goes on and on and on about her ad nauseum so I must have missed something.

Like Benanti who was 19 when she replaced Luker in the last revival, or Kerstin Anderson (I think she's 20?), who's playing the role on tour. I would actually love to see an older girl to play the role so its not like a young girl marrying an old ass man with 6 kids. They seem to do that stuff today. Im happy its not like that with the She Loves Me revival."

You do realize that Maria's husband was 25 years older then her, don't you? It may seem like she's marrying an "old ass man", but when she married at age 22, her husband was 47. It may seem wrong to you, but casting a young actress against a middle aged actor is faithful to the story.

And an "older girl" is a woman. An adult female is not a girl; neither is Jessie Mueller. She's a 32 year old woman.

She'd be a pretty freaking great Fanny Brice.

It's heavily implied that there is a significant difference in age, simply because Maria is a young postulant and Captain von Trapp is a widower with seven kids--including one that is already 16. Most parents of 16 year old children aren't 30 and most postulants aren't 35. The Captain is also supposed to be high ranking and well regarded military leader, something you wouldn't expect at a young age.

If Jessie Mueller were to be Maria, you'd need an older captain for it to believable. I love Rebecca Luker, but even when I saw the show when I was 11 or so, she struck me as too old to be someone who wasn't even a young nun yet.
