Talent is not as important as ability to sell tickets.
How about American Idol's Fantasia as Dorothy in The Wiz?

I was gonna say get the three black chicks from AI3 and do dreamgirls...Fantasia as Deena, Jennifer as Effie, and Latoya as Lorell. I'd pay money to see that.
Let's see - Fantasia couldn't sustain 8 performances of that show for one week, Jennifer would be fine, LaToya has no personality when she sings. That would be boring in a musical theater setting.
Hold the phone: isn't the idea that stunt casting is NOT a dream, by definition?
Shields and Yarnell??? Holy F*cking SH*T!
How about Pink Lady in SIDE SHOW?
John Stamos in mamma mia
I love John Stamos
how about
beverly d'angelo as miss mona in "whorehouse"?
bette midler in "golda's balcony"
julie kavner as Mama Rose
kathy najimy as edna turnblad
Bette Midler in Golda's Balcony?? I think you overestimate.

Can Julie Kavner sing? I loved her in that movie This is My Life...
Harry Connick, Jr. Put him in SOMETHING! NOW! PLEASE!
she's been nominated for two Oscars, why not? and she can certainly handle the rigors of an 8-show work week....she's on tour right now, what's harder than that?
I just don't think she's up to that particular role.
well, that's certainly your option...but in theory, why would playing golda meir be any different than playing any other character? of course, some people will have more of a flair for golda than others, but that's true of any role.
Some roles are much more difficult to handle than others.
i used to think that as well, then i read "True and False" by David Mamet...not so sure anymore...some roles are perhaps more demanding physically or vocally, but i don't think playing Mama Rose is any different that playing Hamlet...but that's just me
