I don't like it.

ewww- It sounds like a Madonna backbeat. But Beyonce is very good.
The film is not testing as well as expected. Getting a lot of un wanted laughter during the sung none performance parts.
It's possible that the people who laughed just aren't fans of musicals.
I could do without the 40 minute introduction. But other than that, it's not too bad.
EDIT: Actually, it does kind of suck. I liked the other versions of the song much better than this one. I wonder why they changed it.

Un-wanted laugher? huh. I really hope this is sucessful- it is pretty much the future of movie musicals. And I hpoe this remix is a very remixed-remix.
Dame, where did you hear about negative tests? I know about the Emeryville, CA screening, but reports from there were extraordinarily positive, even for the sung through dialog.
I really enjoyed the tempo and version of the Tony Awards with HUGH JACKMAN more...

PLEASE tell me this is a sick joke.
DAME, the screening was actually extraordinarily well recieved. most of the people seeing the film didnt know the circumstances going into the film. some of them laughed at the recitative and that's not DREAMGIRLS' fault. suspension of belief is an amazing thing. it's so funny that people suspend enough to believe some guy gets bit by a radioactive spider and can now climb walls, but people just can't break into song. i had 10 friends who are in the industry and not in any way involved with the film who went to the screening. as musical theatre fans and avid film fans, they absolutely LOVED the film. there were issues that they think could make it better, but they loved it in the form it was and the studio people let them know it wasnt even completed yet! they also said nobody got up and left. these were average, joeschmo, movie goers who were laughing and whatnot about the recitative. oh! and there was sustained applause at about 3 minutes after AIATY. not a negative test at all.
The screenings I am reffering to were held in Emeryville, CA and in Orlando. And I am only going by scoring cards. I have not seen it.

Not if it doesn't deliver.
And Tonya.. I am glad to hear. How exciting. How was La Hudson?
????
I want to kidnap Jennifer Hudson and make her sing for me every day for the rest of my life.

yuck... It sounds like a BGM of some old shooting game with all these lasers and such.
Can people try and remember the context of this song?
Of course its going to sound retro disco and a bit dated to us. But to Curtis and his latest new sound its ideal. The fact that it will jar so badly with the presumably wonderfully soulful rendition by Jennifer Hudson moments before, will only reinforce the hollowness of Curtis' approach.

I already posted this yesterday then got my head chewed off for not posting it Off Topic- JEEZ!!!!!!
plus, it's a "remix," not the actual song.

The remix you are all discussing has no connection with the track being used in the film, except that it uses a reworked version of Beyoncé's vocal. The film's version is online also, which many fans discovered some time ago.
Also, there was no test screening of Dreamgirls in Orlando. Somebody has been misinformed.
I recommend checking out this excellent Dreamgirls blog if you wish to download the "real" One Night Only:

you'll see a "rare" CD that is for sale on eBay. Please...these CD's are not rare. They are promo items - samplers - being distributed freely to many radio stations, clubs and DJ's etc etc. I bet you'll also see them for sale soon.
The company I work for finally got our copy today from a marketing firm that always sends us stuff like this.
