I've only seen footage of the original Bennett production, and this version doesn't veer too far away from it. As I've said before, it has a similar look with the skeletal "towers" with lighting fixtures on them. The costume changes in Heavy, Heavy, the onstage/backstage quarrels during that number, the costume change in I Am Changing, the table being pulled deep into the stage during And I Am Telling You as it's about to end while the new Dreamettes take center stage..all more or less identical to the original.
It's a great production. In a way, it's quite nondescript as well because there aren't too many frills in terms of sets. The focus is pretty much on the acting, singing and sometimes the dancing.

Does anyone know why Dreamgirls London is a limited run? It appears to be doing well. Why would the producer want to close up shop? Is this intended to be a pre-broadway try-out (odd for a revival)?

Saw the show tonight and loved it. Went in knowing nothing about it other than that Amber Riley was in it. This will do very well in London and I'd be shocked if it doesn't transfer with Amber.

The book is what it is, but it's so well staged - simply and so cleverly - the costumes are a delight and the lights are excellent. Loved the choreography but they should work a little more on it, the dancers weren't very precise (especially in the opening number of the second act. Speaking of that, has Deena borrowed that costume from Lola across the road??). There were some messy notes in the title song, but the boas made me forgive everything.
The cast is very very good, there is some of the best singing you can hear in the West End. Lily Frazer was a bit disappointing but they put her in a role where she can do no harm. I liked Joe Aaron Reid, even if he couldn't reach all the notes and tried a bit too much to play Curtis as Mr Burns in the second act.
Adam J. Bernard is a star in the role of Jimmy, I'm not saying he stole the show but he surely was glorious. I liked Ibinabo Jack as Lorrell quite a lot and absolutely loved Liisi as Deena... it's a bit of thankless role because the audience will prefer Effie and the writing in the scene when she leaves Curtis is rubbish, but Liisi was absolutely phenomenal and sang the hell out of her numbers... I think "Listen" was my favourite moment of the whole show.
Amber is fantastic, not much that I can add, great great great singing and very fine acting, I really loved her. I wonder for how long she will be able to mantain this standard in the singing department - I'm not throwing shades (I LOVED her), but I don't think it's the kind of score you can sing 7 times a weeks for many many months at the same (expectional) level as the current one.

I've been thinking this since the West End production was announced! Will we be seeing it next season?

Act 1
I'm looking for something baby
Goin' downtown
Taking the long way home
Move
Fake your way to the top
Cadillac car
Steppin' to the bad side
Party party
I want you baby
Family
Dreamgirls
Press conference
Heavy
It's all over
And I am telling you I'm not going
Act 2
Love love you baby
When I first saw you
I am changing
Ain't no party
I meant you no harm
The rap
I miss you , old friend
One night only
I'm somebody
Listen
Hard to say goodbye
Dreamgirls {reprise}
Saw this last night. It is a fabulous show. I enjoyed it far more than I remember enjoying the original production. Which apart from Miss Holiday, left me underwhelmed.
