Interesting. Overall I think it sounds great, but some of the changes are odd. I don't like some of the harmonic changes in 'When I First Saw You', nor do I like that they move the "you are my dream" line two beats later so that it begins on the downbeat of the next measure. Also, the Michael Jackson 'ABC' sound-alike is just a little too close to the real thing for my taste. You can write a song that sounds like the Jackson 5 without writing the same song.

But all the singing sounds good, and that's good.

I think the singing sounds great. This is the first bit of I Am Changing that I've heard, but Hudson sounds fantastic. I don't mind the Jackson 5 song, though I agree it really does sound like a copy. The only song that doesn't grab me is Step on Over. I was a bit confused when I saw I Miss You, Old Friend being sung by Loretta Divine, but then I realized that has been broken into two songs -- one with the same title and Effie, Sing My Song between Effie and CC.

The first song on CD 2 is listed as "I'm Somebody," but that comes much later in the musical/film, and is a pretty critical song to the story. I assume it has been cut as a full number and replaced with the scene mainly acted (as show by the clip of Deena and Effie talking through their reconciliation), but I'll really miss that, especially the final exchange between Deena and Curtis. From the location of Listen, I guess that is designed to replace that sequence, but I'm going to miss it.

Also, Ain't No Party is not a listed a track. However, in the "Making Of" featurette, they show Lorell singing part of that song (the "I've Got a Show to Do" line). That is part of a track titled "Lorrell Loves Jimmy/Family," which sounds like it may just be that one line and then a segue into a disco-ish version of family. Does anyone know anything about that? It seems like a strange combination. (And that one bit of Anika Noni Rose makes me want to hear more from Lorell.)

Tracks 17-21 on the CD 2 are duplicates of tracks earlier in the discs. Are those the radio versions designed to be singles? The versions of One Night Only and And I'm Telling You sound like dance versions. (AITY sounds just bizarre.)

God, I'm geeked about this film. Can't it be December 15 yet?

This actually sounds great. Jennifer Hudson sounds fantastic. "Listen" by Beyonce, of what I heard sounds great.

You can hear all of Listen on the Dreamgirls website. Click on "Meet the Dreams," and then on the next screen, go to "Players" and click on "Deena Jones." The full song will play, and you can click on "Continue" to see photos and get some easter eggs -- like the fake Dreams album covers.

"Ain't No Party" is not in the film, though the backstage scene with Jimmy and Lorrell is (where that song took place). Her "...I gotta show to do" line isn't part of "Ain't No Party". Lorrell utters those lines as a comeback line to Jimmy AFTER his career fiasco sequence in "Jimmy's Rap", which takes place AFTER Lorrell has sung "Ain't No Party" to him (in the stage-version).

Since other 'non-performance' songs DO appear in the film ("Family", "It's All Over", "Love You, I Do", "When I First Saw You" and "I Miss You Old Friend"), it was never explained why "Ain't No Party" was never included for the film. It would have been Anika Noni Rose's one solo spot to shine. Oh well. Too late now, the film is done. re: Dreamgirls soundtrack clips

Any idea why sony took down the clips?
