What sort of stuff would the public have to wear? Would a sportjacket be enough, or would it have to be a tux?
no open-toed shoes!
(oh wait, that was WCPC in San Diego.....sneakingly done to keep women out).....until some of started wearing open-toed sneakers, and they had to change it, lol
I wore a tux both times I went...since my ticket stub read "Black Tie Only, Please". You wear a black suit and tie and that would be fine. I just bought a tux when I was a voice student to use at recitals and such, so it was an excuse to wear it.
I think women can get away with a little less formal(ie a cocktail dress) esp if not in main orchestra but they will turn you away if you are not dressed formally.
I am going this year. I am wearing black dress pants and shoes. A dress shirt and tie. Don't think I am wearing a suit. I asked friends who have been and they said a tux or suit is not mandatory. I may wear a jacket.

Yeah, the ticket stub says Black Tie only.
They don't allow people in who are not dressed to code.
They also take away cameras and such and make you check them.

The last time I went, I didn't want to spend $100 to rent a tux, so I bought a tux shirt ($20) and bow tie/cummerbund set ($20) and wore them with a black suit I already had.
So do you think I could get away with a dark blue suit as long as I have black pants and a tie?
And a dress shirt?
When I went in 2002 I wore an all-out ballgown. Every guy up there had either a tux or a dark suit and tie. Have a great time!

What about for an opening night party? I'm going to one soon and am curious about the dress code. What would be appropriate?
uncageg - wear the jacket. You'll be glad you did once you get there.
James2 - you mean a dark blue jacket w/ black pants? Or do you have a dark blue suit? Wear the dark blue suit (w/ tie of course).

You do realize you should prolly worry about getting tix before deciding what to wear...

Well if someone is not able to dress the code, then I'd hope they worry about what to wear before getting tickets.

when I went a few years ago I wore a tux. Not everyone was dressed in a tux. Those not dressed up looked out of place. Rent a tux and have fun.
Yeah, I think I will wear one. Don't have one that fits right now but I have a connection there that I can just rent one for the night. And Thesb, I already have tickets on hold. Good connection.
Hoping to get tickets, went the past two years. Wore a tux both times. Would have been out of place without one, even up in the mezz.
