Dress circle london

I'm going to London for the first time in a few days and a couple of people have told me about Dress circle. they say it sells loads of theatre stuff and i was wondering if anyone could tell me where it is, how big it is, if it's good value for money etc.

Dress Circle is on Monmouth Street - location link below:

You'll find CDs at HMV probably cheaper but Dress Circle stock many CDs, DVDs & other theatre merchandise that you won't find anywhere else in London. It's pretty much a "must see" for any musical theatre fan visiting London.

"how big it is"

It's on two levels, but it's tiny and tends to get crowded and hot.

I'd avoid taking a large bag with you, and take your coat off before you go. You will spend much longer in there than you want and will get very hot!

Also, keep a track of how much you spend. I went in there last week for one CD and ended up spending £50...

One thing not to miss in there... (and most people do) is two boxes of old programmes, playbills, and other theatre memorabilia, theyre located in the second section of upstairs against the back wall in the left corner... Ive picked up some great little souvenirs in there over the years!!

I tend to find Dress Circle a really lovely shop especially for finding the hard to find/obscure musicals but in terms of more recent releases they are expensive.

I recently bought Sondheim on Sondheim for £8.99 at HMV.com and in DC it's £15.99. This is repeated on a number of CD titles.

It pays to shop around but nevertheless it is a fabulous shop.

CONaries-agreeed loved that box of 'treasures'

Dress Circle can be more expensive, particularly for the more 'mainstream' stuff you can pick up in HMV/Amazon etc but it's one of the only places to find the more unusual stuff.

They have a great selection of books/sheet music as well.

I've lost a lot of time in there from browsing to chatting with the lovely staff about what we'd seen reccently-one of the many things I miss about living in London is Dress Circle!

Spotlight61, You are quoting HMVs online price, which is correct. If you go in store to buy they charge £16 - same as Dress Circle. I find these days this often happens, one price for on-line another in-store, very annoying!!
