I saw Drew his first week and maybe I'm not a tough enough critic or maybe it was because I'd only seen Rent once before and didn't have anyone to compare him with but I liked him (though it was the other cast members who really blew me away). Maybe it's not fair that he got cast without previous theatrical experience, but if he got people to see the show who wouldn't have otherwise (and it's been way up in attendance since he started, I believe) then it wasn't to the show's detriment that he was in it. Maybe it'll inspire him to do more theater (look at Deborah Gibson's post teen idol career). In the end, some hated him (though I believe those who did had some preconceived notion before attending) and some liked him, even a lot. All in all, not bad for a newbie's first time on Broadway.
