I'm sure this really belongs on the UK board, but I know some of you guys want to know this.
Richard Dreyfuss is out of the West End Producers replaced by... some guy called NATHAN LANE for 12 weeks only!
Book your plane tickets now!
PS Sorry if you already know. I think it's exciting- especially since I am in Row D next week Saturday night!

Regarding Dreyfuss, it was obvious the exact time the London rehearsal piano played out the first few notes of "The King of Broadway" for Richard to "sing" that this was a tragic casting mistake.

Here's hoping all the best for Poppa Nathan in London, lucky UK audience, he and Evans should be a treat. But I wish Lane had a bit more rest, his performance in The Frogs was both brilliant and exhausting!

Does this remind anyone else of another infamous bit of mistaken casting?

Faye Dunnaway's 11th hour dismissal from SUNSET BOULEVARD.

I agree with the post about the vocal chops. But even if he only halfway sang the score, Dreyfuss is not a farceur -- he is a naturalistic comic actor, but not anyone's idea of a funnyman, or a clown. Go back, look at the RICHARD III sections of GOODBYE GIRL. He's really not that big a scream.
