When I first saw The Drowsy Chaperone about a week ago, I was not at all expecting to buy the cast recording--but the second I got home from falling in love with the cast, I knew I had to get my hands (ears, whatever) on it and I immediately bought the album on iTunes.

Well, as much as I enjoy the cast recording, I'm finding out now that buying the CD would have been more than worth the extra money because of the 32 pages of full-color extras I've heard about in the booklet.

I already have another ticket to see Drowsy again in two weeks, and I know that this time I'll be buying a souvenir program (and hitting the stage door, of course). Now that I've already spent a good non-refundable $9.99 on the music, I'm wondering--is it worth it to buy the CD again just for the booklet, or will I find a lot of that clever material in the souvenir program? I'm sort of leaning towards just sticking with the souvenir program--I'm planning to buy the limited edition vinyl recording when it's released, which should also have some pretty funny and interesting material with it--but I'm trying to get an idea about how the photos and extras in the CD booklet differ from those in the souvenir program. Thanks for any info/advice you can give me!

I wouldn't buy it if you already have it. I never look through it, but I do love the music.

I haven't seen the show yet, but the CD booklet isn't anything special. I think you'd be happier just sticking with the Souvenir Program.

The cd booklet is really nice. The program has all of the same pictures plus a few more.

The program is great! I rarely purchase programs anymore (I have I think exactly ONE from any show that I've seen in the last ten years), but I just happened to browse through the program after the show. I thought it was really clever. If you didn't know, it's half a souvenir program, and the other half of the program is actually Man in the Chair's scrapbook. It has reviews of the Drowsy Chaperone, pictures of the fictional stars, etc. There are also beautiful pictures of the real show. Definitely worth the $10 they are charging for it. Most programs now days are $20.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I agree! The CD booklet is great, but the souvenir program is better. Plus, many of the pictures in the booklet are also in the program.

I wrote home about it!

I'm going in about a month. How much are souvenir programs? Also, do they have keychains and if so, how much are they? Thanks!

The CD booklet is excellent, but I'm sure that the program is similar and perhaps better. (That opinion may change once I buy the program.)

The CD booklet is cute but not worth it if you already have the CD. The souvenir program is amazing, one of the best I've ever seen, truly entertaining and adorable. Even though the material's not quite the same, I'm sure you'll be quite satisfied with the souvenir book.

Millie_dillmount--the program is $10 and I think the keychain is $5 (not 100% sure about that though)

Sh-k-boom's releasing a record of the cast album. It is only the music and does not contain any of Bob's commentary.

Ah, nice. Thanks for the very helpful replies...I guess I'm going to stick with just getting the souvenir program then (it's always nice to save money for other shows and theatre merchandise, isn't it?).

Ooh I'm so buying the record!

(I'll need to dig up that Smurfs Record Player I had when I was a kid.)
