I've heard that Linda is very good, but I've seen Beth twice and I do have to say I've thought to myself both times that she did deserve her Tony...she's really fantastic. I see what you mean though, the role is less than meaty to say the least. But I think Beth just nails it, and to make a role so consistently funny is a difficult thing to do. That's why I think she was honored at the Tonys, not because the part itself is any Hamlet (although apparently, according to Man in Chair's Book of Dreams, Beatrice Stockwell did that as well and was "reportedly brilliant"

).
"If there is going to be a restoration fee, there should also be a Renaissance fee, a Middle Ages fee and a Dark Ages fee. Someone must have men in the back room making up names, euphemisms for profit."
