It seeme like there's just "Tony" inflation the past few years. Of course, everything depends on timing and the competiton but "The Color Purple" was nominated for 11--as many as "The Lion King" which conceptually was in a differant league.
TDC, which is really an entertaining evening, got as many nominations as "Ragtime".
Then again, we live in an era when "Titanic" won more Academy Awards than "Lawrence of Arabia".
Good Timing. Ticka, Ticka, Ticka, good timing. I suppose it really has been a weak year.
