The Producers...
DC was one away wasn't it...from tying TP.
The Producers got an extra Featured Actor nom for a total of 14. Drowsy has 13.
Pretty damn good!
The Producers did not have a leading actress nomination.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of the last time a show was nominated in all four categories

The OBC of South Pacific had all four WIN the Tony Awards:
Mary Martin (Leading Actress)
Ezio Pinza (Leading Actor)
Juanita Hall (Featured Actress)
Myron McCormick (Featured Actor)
That will probably NEVER happen again. And I FORGOT "Producers" didn't have a leading lady! So it didn't cover all the categories.
Thoroughly Modern Millie was the last musical to have nominations in all four categories.
Leading Actor: Gavin Creel
Leading Actress: Sutton Foster
Supporting Actress: Harriett Harris
Supporting Actor: Mark Kudisch
Rent had all 4 nominations too:
Leading Actor- Adam Pascal
Leading Actress- Daphne Rubin-Vega
Featured Actor- Wilson Jermain Heredia (won)
Featured Actress- Idina Menzel
The next most recent occurrence was in 1998 when Cabaret was nominated in all 4 categories (and won 3).
Leading Actor: Alan Cumming *
Leading Actress: Natasha Richardson *
Supporting Actor: Ron Rifkin *
Supporting Actress: Mary Louise Wilson
* winners
While researching this I was reminded of several shows from the past 10 years that WOULD have been nominated in all four categories if it weren't for much publicized (or debated on theatre message boards) snubs.
1997: Joel Grey for Chicago to go along with Bebe Neuwirth, James Naughton, and Marcia Lewis
1999: Amy Spanger for Kiss Me, Kate to go along with Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin Mazzie, and Michael Berresse.
2003: Kerry Butler from Hairspray to go along with Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Dick Latessa, and Chester Gregory.
Well thank goodness because they deserve it!

For those of you who had such aweful things to say about The Drowsy Chaperone prior to its opening, crow is best served with a light whine sauce.
okay, i'm not touching *that*, BUT -
i'm thrilled that it racked up so many nominations - i can't wait to see what they actually end up taking home.
Honestly though, I wouldn't get to excited about Drowsy being the new Producers and sweeping everything. There are a bunch that it's definitely not going to win (Sutton, Danny Burstein, Lighting Design, Direction, etc.) I don't mean to be negative, I love the show. I am just saying it won't be even close to a sweep.

I apologize for my oversight -- I totally overlooked Movin' Out during the 2003 season. It did have nominations in all 4 categories
Lead Actor: John Selya
Lead Actress: Elizabeth Parkinson
Featured Actor: Matt Cavenaugh and Keith Roberts
Featured Actress: Ashley Tuttle
--Thanks Doodle for pointing that out! BTW-- Hairspray did not have nominations in all 4 categories because no one was nominated for Best Featured Actress...the 2003 nominees were:
--Jane Krakowski, Nine * winner
--Tammy Blanchard, Gypsy
--Mary Stuart Masterson, Nine
--Chita Rivera, Nine
--Ashley Tuttle, Movin' Out
doodlenyc - i think you might want to check your list. Not all of those shows meet the criteria
Also, the Producers got 15 I believe cause it had two extra supporting nods (Roger Bart and Brad Oscar).
I apologize for adding Hairspray...still not over Kerri Butler not getting the nom.
the rest, I believe, all had at least one nomination in each acting category, MM. That was the criteria.
Sorry, I meant MusicMan.
Besides Hairspray, which should I not have listed?

"Spamalot" had 14 nominations last year and one three--Best Musical, a Tony for Sara Ramirez, and one for Mike Nichols. Look for "Drowsy" to be similarly disappointed in the number of awards it takes down vis a vis its number of nominations.

a) it hasn't swept yet as the awards aren't given until june 11th.
b) it got a nomination in every single category it possibly could. that's pretty amazing in my opinion.
Like Hawker said though..
Let's see how many it takes home before we get too excited.
I think the point of this thread was that Drowsy Chaperone got a nomination in every one of the musical acting categories and how often in history this has occurred. I would hope no one would get too carried away and think it will sweep through the Tonys a la The Producers.
Steel Pier had 11 nominations and won zero awards.
My predictions have Drowsy winning maybe 6, and only one of the acting categories.
I think Sutton will get featured actress...
probably not, as she's not nominated in that category...
