I'm seeing it Tuesday.
Yes, I was a fanboy as a kid. Don't judge me!

First album I ever bought
by anyone was DD's Seven &
The Ragged Tiger. I was and
still am a fan. They impress
me whether they have big top40
hits or not. They have staying
power...as opposed to most
bands today. For them to open
a new tour with a B'way run is
both odd and intriguing for me.
But I suppose that's the idea.
I thought the B'way cynics would
jump on this thread like hornets
but I guess not many are that
interested. Can't wait for the
reviews.

I was there tonight. It really is just a concert that happens to take place in a broadway house. The first half is their new stuff, the second their old. The biggest complaint from most people was that they didn't do Rio. in terms of merch, they have about 4 different shirts, a set of 5 2-sided posters, some pins, and I think they had the new cd, but I'm not positive.
Donlad Trump and the Olsen Twins were there, along with Moby and Jesse Metcalf.

Posted: 11/3/07 at 12:02amI've been a Duran Duran fan since their first album, but as much as I'd love to go to one of these shows, the ticket prices are insane, so I had to pass on it.

Don't go to big name concerts much? That's a relatively normal price for upper level seats give or take 10 bucks, at least to most of the ones I've been to in the last year. Though that doesn't mean people can afford it I agree.
I'm relatively happy to pay $75 to sit within easy sight distance esp of someone I've never seen so close. Though at a concert, being close to the stage isn't necessarily ideal at all concerts. At least for me. I do prefer sitting further back aways to get the full effect of the lights, etc, for the bigger shows.
I'm looking forward to seeing them on Monday. I last went to one of their concerts in 1984. I thought they sounded so good at either Live Earth or the Concert for Diana that I was happy to see they were playing this run.

Well, actually Lioness, I see a lot of shows. If you're going to a "big name concert" at, say, MSG, there are usually seats available in the upper deck for under $50. For venues the size of the Barrymore, say the Hammerstein Ballroom, the price of tickets usually maxes out around $75 and there are less expensive options. Jones Beach/PNC? Carnegie Hall? Ditto.
Not to mention that last week, Duran Duran did a concert in a comparably sized theatre in CT and the maximum ticket price there was $55. They've bumped these prices up to match Broadway ticket prices, and it's unfortunate.

I go to a lot of shows, too, at a number of placs in NYC (I don't go nor do I have knowledge of what is charged in other states like NJ, or CT where I no longer live, but I'd bet for the most part they charge what the market can bear no matter where the seats or venue....as always there are exceptions at times).
And in looking at a number of my ticket stubs from MSG in the past 3 years for "big name concerts", including people like Paul McCartney and The Who, none of the ones I had in the upper deck were under $50 (without all the fees no less). I can't say it doesn't happen, but I'd guess not so much.
I don't go to Jones Beach anymore, but at the last concert I went to 2 or 3 yrs ago, the seat I had in the last row of the lower deck, which to me isn't much different than the upper deck, wasn't under $50 (though not tremendously more), but perhaps upstairs it was. I'll pay extra to not have to go out there anyway to avoid a 45-60 min drive (at least vs. a 15-20 min train ride). I didn't have it handy, but for some reason I do think Springsteen's Seeger Sessions concert @ MSG was just under $50 in the upper deck.
And really, upper deck seats at MSG are not equitable, at least distance wise, to any seats at a smaller venue, such as for Duran Duran currently. Seats like that at MSG cost an arm and a leg. And to be presumptuous, I'm assuming Duran Duran could most likely still (at least mostly) fill an arena the size of MSG.
I skipped a couple of shows at the Beacon and Nokia Theater for Elvis Costello and Squeeze because while, they weren't really completely out of line prices ($75 and $60 something), it was more than I was willing to spend at that time (esp as I'd seen EC a couple of times in the past few years already). I am still kinda kicking myself for not seeing Squeeze anyway. It's been 19 yrs since the last time I did.
At the Nokia there were cheaper tix if I wanted to stand in the front section all night, but I don't do that because, 1) I'm fairly short and I'm not paying to watch the back of someone's head as it usually ends up and 2) I don't have the energy or patience to stand for hours at concerts anymore.
It's all relative for anyone I guess.
And I really enjoyed the Duran Duran concert including a good portion of their new stuff. I'll be curious if I'll like the studio versions less, the same or more.

Not presumptuous at all. They sold it out in 2005. I was in the very last row in the very last section sold.
