I can't waste time explaining my situation. I just need a monologue tomorrow that is:

a) for a male
b) classical
c) non-Shakespeare
d) comic!
e) not done to death at auditions (but I'll look at anything at this point!)

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Thanks, jrb, and anyway all the rest. I finally found one in the playwright we were told not to do because he's problematic...Chekov. Perfection.

i would not call chekhov classical. i assume you want something in verse or "elevated" language or what's called "style". i think you will be rapped on the nose by your teacher if you brought in a chekhov under these circumstances.

There's a great comic monologue in Beaumarchais' MARRIAGE OF FIGARO about the English and the use of "goddam" for the character of Figaro.
