Broadwayluvr, expand your horrizons. If Broadway is on strike, there are lots and lots of Off Broadway and Off Off Broadwasy shows to see that are equal if not better than the shows on Broadway. The only difference is they don't have the same production costs, but hopefully you're not going to the theatre just for the sets and costumes.
Really, broadway is good, but there is better theatre available in NYC.

And why else would anyone go see Thoroughly Modern Millie or Wicked or Aida? It's all about the spectacle, not the writing.

Posted: 7/11/04 at 12:35pmSouth Fl Marc, thanks for your suggestion. If there is a strike, I'm sure I will venture to Off (or Off Off) Broadway. I must take in some theatre while I'm in town otherwise I will feel like I hadn't been to NYC at all. Do you have any recommendations for Off or Off Off Broadway shows that I should take in?

I have tickets for "Beauty and the Beast" this Wednesday afternoon as my eight year old niece's introduction to Broadway. Is there anything off-B'Way that I could substitute if the strike does cancel the show? I don't know which one of us will be more disappointed.

I have the same prob with my 10 year old sis coming this weekend. The American Girl Place has a theatre that has shows every day. Little kids would like that. Hope that helps!

Posted: 7/11/04 at 10:10pmWicked is so much more than sets and costumes! It is one of the deepest stories that I've seen. While I think that there's a lot more than this question, my favorite is "What is the importance of Popularity in today's world?" It would seem that the show thinks it is as important as Galinda does early on: she's the only one that is able to do any actual good. Makes you wonder about Bush...Lol.
