Hi All-
On my way home from NYC- Saturday 8/18 ( I saw the play "Old Acquantaince') I decided to pick up a copy Entertainment Weekly Magazine's Fall Movie Preview (which they featured upcoming movies ) so I dont get bored at the 4 hour ride bus ride home .
Fortunately, They had articles & pictures on the three movie musicals in this issue- Sweeeney Todd (my favorite of three- so excited to see this ) Enchanted & Julie Taymor's Across The Universe. Also they had a lot of articles on new movies like "Elizabeth II " and of course Reese Wintherspoon new movie , "Rendition"
Also has an article on "Hairspray" on Oscar Watch : Pick up a copy

Does Reese have a new nose on that cover?

I read the article online about Sweeney and in the article Burton does confirm it's rated R.

Wow. That's Reese? When I first saw it I thought it was Kate Winslet.
I'm going to head out to pick up my copy very soon.
Is anyone else driven nuts by seeing the ACROSS THE UNIVERSE trailer. It seems like every movie I've gone to since THE NAMESAKE plays that trailer, and I've gotten to the point that I can't stand seeing it.

I thought it was a ridiculously airbrushed picture of Meg Ryan.
Where, oh where, are the SWEENEY trailers???
Rated R....cool.
Did anyone read the article about how it is now a rule that for best original song or original score the studio can't send the voters a cd, but the voters can only judge by seeing the movie. How crazy is that?
They'll still be able to judge songs from a screener DVD, though. Just not a music CD.
And I don't think it's crazy at all.
...any more than if they sent out a shirt and coat and said, "Now, vote for Best Costumes!"
They need to see it in the movie, in context. It's a good rule.
I love the idea. It's been too common lately that a winning song merely plays over the credits of a film, and it is high time that the academy starts taking into consideration what is actually happening onscreen WHILE the song is playing. Plus, it will give musicals a better chance.
they have to actually watch the film they are voting for?
what the hell oscars.
When I first saw that cover, I thought "What is Maria Sharapova doing on EW?"

Don't the rules say an end credits song can still be award eligible, just so long as it is the VERY FIRST song played when the credits start to roll? I thought I read that somewhere...

Wasn't Learn To Be Lonely from the POTO nominated for Best Song? That played at end credits, so I think Come So Far is safe.

Yes, "Learn To Be Lonely" was an end credits song, but I think the article is saying the rules are changing for this coming year.
