I worked on the tour of this show in it's third year when it went non-Equity. While still far from perfect, I think this adaptation is a lot of fun, and the arrangements by Andrew Lippa sounded great.
Why are we calling it the Eartha Kitt version? Granted, she was in the show, but she had nothing to do with the creative aspects. If anything it should be called the Tom Briggs adaptation, and yes, it's about time they released the rights. The older version is a joke and neither of the theatres I saw perform it ever stuck to the script as is. They both included chunks of the Robert L. Freedman teleplay and incorporated "The Sweetest Sounds" and "There's Music in You" illegally. At least regional theatres now have a legal option.
I took a look at the script today and it's actually not the national tour version. It is the adaption by Tom Briggs, but it's been further adapted to include "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" which was not featured on tour. "Loneliness of Evening" has also been added and stuck rather bizarrely right between "The Gavotte" and "The Cinderella Waltz".
The majority of the book remains untouched, though, and the orchestrations seem to match the tour except Christopher's reprise of "Ten Minutes Ago" that he sang after Cinderella leaves the ball as been reverted back to the reprise of "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful" that he sings with Cinderella from the 1997 Robert L. Freedman teleplay. They've also included the reprise sung by the Queen which was not used on tour and she sings that with Christoper and the King prior to the duet reprise.

I beleive the latest changes were added in when the Papermill playhouse did it. does it still the prologue at the beginning?

I didn't see it at Papermill Playhouse, but the show program is on their website and the song list doesn't include "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" or "Loneliness of Evening". The prologue is the same, but they cut the line about Cinderella's father remarrying. The "Or rather she took him... with two daughters mean and grim." line is cut.
There's quite a few odd cuts, additions and reordering of the dialogue. It's really lame compared to the tour script which I thought was near perfect. They also cut the reprise of "The Prince is Giving a Ball" which I loved. I'd be curious to know if these changes were made by Tom Briggs or by "cooks" within the Rodgers and Hammerstein organization. The whole thing seems like a patchwork of different ideas and the tour script didn't, at least to me.

I loved the opening we had on tour, especially when we actually were able to fit the full set in the venue. The moon drop with the fiber optics was beautiful, and I loved how the moon opened to reveal the Fairy Godmother inside it.
I loved that too. It was probably my favorite part of the whole show. And I love how ominous it sounds. Almost scary.

when I saw the show and the fairy godmother appeard I was totaly in awe it was unexpected it was like she came out of nowhere doesn't the fairy godmother sing there's music in you during it. I hope this is this is the production that networks is planning to take on tour again.

On tour she sang a few lines from "Music in You" as part of the opening. A longer version of the song was used as part of the Finale.

Ya thats what I remember I was just mezmorized by the entire show.
Ah, so they're licensing the Papermill Playhouse version and not the tour version. That makes more sense now. I wonder why the song list on their website doesn't match up. That definitly threw me off.

instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd just add on to this one but l was looking back on videos but could any one tell me if this was the arrangement of the sweetest sounds used in national tour production if I remeber I thought it was a liittle more up beat.

I think this is it. There might be a few minor changes to what we used on tour, but whether that is something that was actually changed, or just not hearing things I'm used to hearing due to a reduced orchestra, slightly different tempos, etc, I couldn't tell you for sure without finding my old rehearsal tapes and comparing. But god only knows where in my parents' basement those ended up, lol.
That is the tour arrangement for sure. It's just a little different due to the changes made for the licensed script. On tour the song did start with the music box tinkering and ended with the little round. The only differences here are the tempo, the dialogue in the middle with the Stepmother and Stepdaughters incorporates a few lines that were in a different scene in the tour adaptation, and on tour they actually finished the song, everyone went about their business and then Christopher and Cinderella bumped into each other.
