You mean the one at the top of the page, seeing as its "as per BROADWAYWORLD".
Jeez.

It's on the main board. I think this is a good property for London. The british musicals of the 20s/30s were really more like the fictional DROWSY CHAPERONE than most on Broadway.
I wonder if they will change the references to the West End for London. It would seem to make sense to do that (to me).
Paige is a good choice. And she pretty much guarantees a second cast recording.

Posted: 1/18/07 at 12:28pmI'm surprised Maria Friedman didn't fire her agent this morning.

Posted: 1/18/07 at 12:30pmOh I don't think Maria Friedman is right for the CHAPERONE...

I don't see Maria either...and I recall reading that Bob Martin would be opening with the show in London, but it was probably on these boards so a link wouldn't prove any more credibility to the speculation...

But how right is Elaine Paige for this? Somehow I don't see her as a comedienne.
I was thinking that Maria Friedman would make a great Margaret in "The Light in the Piazza".

Posted: 1/18/07 at 1:00pmElaine Paige has done several comedies in the UK, like THE MISANTHROPE and WHERE THERE'S A WILL. And she was a hoot in ANYTHING GOES and SUNSET BOULVARD - she definitely has a flair for somewhat grotesque over the top characters, so I think she'll be fine with DC.

I'm all up for this casting. Sounds good and I know Elaine could pull it off. But I am curious if they'd keep it in American/Broadway context. If not, they'd have to rewrite some bits here and there. Frankly, I think the "American-ism" of it makes it funny.
Bob would make sense to reprise the role in London, although there are talks of him travelling with the show to Toronto when the national tour launches...

Thanks, MB. I'm sure the show will be great.
I can't wait to see who is cast in the tour.

Posted: 1/18/07 at 1:05pmWell the American-ness is what makes it funny to an American, but obviously some of the jokes are going to be rewritten for UK audiences, whether or not the show-within-the-show of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is changed to an old musical from the West End of the 1920s.

Posted: 1/18/07 at 1:12pmMichael Bennett, what's an example of a 20s/30s West End musical? I'm honestly not that familiar with them. Would "Me and My Girl" be one?

Posted: 1/18/07 at 1:46pmTo the person who mentioned Bob Martin... I don't know if he'll be doing the tour, but he is leaving the Broadway company of Drowsy in March to open the London production. He said he'd return to New York in the fall.
