Ellie died of a heart attack at age 68 in NYC. Her wonderful catalogue of music was the basis for the 1985 Broadway musical Leader of the Pack.

The show itself wasn't much, but I loved the music and the cast album...saw it in previews and Ellie and Darlene Love were both really sweet at the stage door.

I so wanted Annie Golden to sign my cast album when she was in "Xanadu," but I couldn't find the damn thing...

This is so saddening. May she RIP.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Terrible news. And so young. I'm glad LEADER OF THE PACK is finally on CD now, so new generations can discover it. I love that music, the story, that cast. My heart goes out to Ms. Greenwich's friends and family.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

She also sang backup on Aretha's "Chain of Fools." Great talent. RIP.
