Planning on catching a show tonight, but I'm stumped on what I want to see more. Not exclusively between these two. I also haven't seen Life in the Theater, and some other things. Some feedback would be great!

SHOW SCHEDULE: 2009: Phantom of the Opera(***1/2), 2010: HAIR(*****), Sondheim on Sondheim(***), HAIR(*****), A Little Night Music(****), A Little Night Music (after reopening)x2(*****), Chicago(*), Mrs. Warren's Profession[09/09/10](***), American Idiot [9/17/2010](*****), Brief Encounter [9/24/2010](****), Lombardi [09/30/2010](****), American Idiot [10/20/2010], Bloody Bloody AJ [10/28/2010](****), Time Stands Still [11/03/2010](****), The 39 Steps [11/11/2010] (***1/2)

Time Stands Still is really excellent. Elling was supposed to have been great in London, but last night's preview--which sounds much different than the British version--got mostly negative reviews from posters here and on ATC. Of course, it may get better by the time it opens, but I'd choose Time Stands Still for sure at this point.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I've noticed the negative feedback for Elling as well but have not heard much critique on Time Stands Still. I think I'll give it a shot tonight.

to be fair, only two people posted opinions in the Elling thread after last night's first preview: one was white-hot negative, the other lacakadaisically positive.

i think a few more BWW regulars plan to see the show later in the week.

all that said, my gut instinct is that April Saul's advice is sound. Elling or Time Stands Still?

I caught TIME STANDS STILL and really enjoyed it. It's warm, touching, funny, smart, thoughtful and watching Laura Linney is pure delight.

Just returned from TIME STANDS STILL, and I would really like to thank Aril Saul for pushing me in that direction. I was floored by the performances by the entire cast, especially Laura. Great night of theater.

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed Time Stands Still...and ironically, I was just given a free ticket to see Elling this Sunday by a poster on ATC who couldn't use it; so I guess I'll make up my mind on that one this weekend!

I think you made a fabulous choice in going with Time Stands Still jnthnxlent. I saw Elling yesterday and thought it was pretty horrible. Glad to hear you enjoyed TSS :)

Thanks Fanta:). I'm begining to wonder if I'm even interested in seeing Elling anymore. I was looking forward to seeing Jennifer Collidge on stage. Does she really have nothing to do i the play like I hear?

She is certainly the supporting role. She plays all of the female characters, but still doesn't have much to do. It felt a bit like a waste since the parts weren't that funny.
