As has previously been discussed, Emily Skinner will be starring in Dirty Blonde at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA, August 11 - October 4, 2009. But Broadwayworld is now reporting that Emily Skinner is also starring in a production of Dirty Blonde at the Hangar Theater June 3 - June 13. It's a different production - at least a different director. Isn't it unusual for an actor to star in 2 entirely different productions of the same show that close in time?

In theatre you don't see it quite as much just because you often don't see major stagings as close to each other. Now, go over to opera and it's a whole different story. There you often have singers closing one production, Carmen for example, to maybe have a week off before going to another company to do an entirely different Carmen. This is part of the reason that is given for stage management to have to cue singers' entrances so much more heavily than they ever do in theatre.

Good point. In opera a lot of singers do the same show in different stagings for decades, so I guess it's not that weird.
There are plenty of actors who repeat roles frequently in regional theatre. The cast of every production of Miss Saigon comes to mind...
Well, I am excited to hopefully get tickets to the Arlington production for my birthday.. fingers crossed! Can't wait to see her!
