I like to think that it's a musical on its own as well as an homage to the Disney oeuvre.

Just because it's a satire doesn't mean it's not a musical as well. Look at the 'South Park' movie. They burst into song just like any other musical. :P

3 (three) songs from the film were nominated for Academy Awards. I think this pretty much disqualifies the film as a 'joke' as it was accepted by not only the film industry but the paying public as well.
The pastiche of the Disney genre was grasped, acknowledged and validated. People/audiences got the joke and the film's intention.

Posted: 3/23/08 at 4:31pmI thought it was great. The music was original and 3 songs were nominated...come on now. It was fun, fresh, clever, and made GOOD fun of disney, not obnoxious. Its NOT a joke :)

henrybutler: it's this phenomenal promenade production based on quite a few of Poe's short stories in Battersea, London. http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/reddeath I went three times, and am absolutely heartbroken it sold out before I could go a fourth and even fifth time. Simply brilliant. :3
